We are delighted to announce that the 43rd M500 Winter Weekend will be held over 9th – 11th January 2026 at Kents Hill Conference Centre, Milton Keynes.
The Weekend prices below include a discount for members who paid the annual subscription. If you joined for a free first year you do not get a discount.
Prices are £250 for M500 members and £255 for non-members. This includes accommodation and all meals from dinner on Friday to lunch on Sunday. Shared accommodation is £210 for members, £215 non-members; non-residential is £110 for members, £115 for non-members.
The Weekend provides an opportunity to do some recreational mathematics, not module-based, with a friendly group of like-minded people. The relaxed and social approach delivers maths for fun. The following sessions will be included:
- The regular quiz on Saturday evening.
- Guest Speakers Brigitte Stenhouse and Elinor Flavell will be talking to us about the history of mathematics on the Saturday afternoon, and Donald Bell will extend his customary short session to entertain us in the morning.
- Sessions provided by our regular contributors.
The Weekend is based on a number of worksheets relevant to the theme, and participants can choose which problems to pursue. Mostly we work in small groups, but you can choose who you work with – nothing is compulsory! It should be approachable to anyone who has completed MST124/MST125, but there will also be material to stretch those who feel the need.
In general, we start with dinner at 7 pm on Friday (arrive any time after 2 pm) and finish around 4 pm on Sunday. You don’t have to be a member of M500 to come to the Weekend, but if you are, there is a small discount (see above). If you decide to join at the same time as coming to the Weekend, please make sure that you send the membership form (and membership fee) to the New Membership Secretary, not to the Winter Weekend Organizer.
If you haven’t been to a Winter Weekend before, and don’t know what it’s about, read Information on the Winter Weekend (PDF), read a personal report on the 2020 weekend or have a look at pictures and Topics of the material from previous Weekends.
